It started with this.
American capital waged war against American labor, and got the Chinese government on their side. In the ensuing decades it facilitated a large transfer of wealth from the American working class to the elites of both the US corporate world and China. Real wages for American labor have not increased since the end of 1970s.
In 2001, China joined the WTO and accelerated this process. In replacing American labor in the means of manufacturing, Chinese labor was paid a pittance. The US market was made almost completely open to Chinese exports. No other socialist country enjoyed such privileges.
These days, there is nothing socialist about China.
